On 10/23/2012 at approximately 1:15 a.m. the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, the Oregon State Police, and the Sisters and Cloverdale Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle crash on Fryrear Rd near milepost 4.5. When units arrived on scene they found a single vehicle on its side blocking Fryrear Rd. The investigating deputies determined the vehicle was traveling southbound at a high rate of speed and failed to negotiate a curve and left the roadway. The driver over-corrected and the vehicle overturned, rolling at least twice before coming to rest on the passenger side. During the rollover, one of the passengers, a juvenile female, was ejected from the vehicle and suffered serious injuries as a result. She was transported to St. Charles Medical Center by Life Flight. Two of the other passengers were injured and were transported by ground ambulance to St. Charles Medical Center for treatment.

Based on the investigation, deputies determined that the driver was driving too fast for the conditions. This crash occurred during darkness on an unlit roadway in a section of the roadway that has numerous sharp curves.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this crash.

Deputies believe the ejected passenger had not been wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash.

The driver of the vehicle did not have a driver’s license. She was issued a citation for No Oregon Driver’s License. In addition, she was cited and released for the crimes of Reckless Driving (X5) and Assault IV (X3).
