On 10/12/11, at about 7:46 am, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a shooting complaint which had just occurred near the Deschutes River, about .25 miles downstream of the Slough Camp day use area. DCSO Patrol Deputies and Detectives responded to the location to investigate. An Oregon State Police Game Trooper also responded to the location to assist with the investigation. The above listed subjects were contacted and interviewed.

Grant and Austin Boswell had been hunting separately from Caleb Keener and Isaac Sabo in the above described area, a well known duck hunting location open to the general public (with the proper hunting license and associated stamps). Both hunting parties reported to have been struck by shotgun pellets fired by the opposite party from a distance of at least 150 yards. Caleb Keener received a minor injury as a result of the shooting and did not require medical attention. There were no other reported injuries. This incident is still under investigation and no arrests have been made at this time. The investigation upon its completion will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review.

The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind all subjects recreating in Deschutes County to be mindful of the area you are in, especially those areas open to hunting during their applicable seasons. Hunters should be aware of their shooting backdrop at all times.
