Sheriff Ty Rupert
On July 31st, 2025, in the Deschutes County Courthouse, Presiding Judge Wells Ashby administered the oath of office to Cpt. Ty Rupert in front of a packed courtroom filled with friends, family, and colleagues. The former Marine and 20-year veteran of the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office will serve as the 11th sheriff of Deschutes County in an interim period through December 31st, 2026.
A native Oregonian, Sheriff Rupert joined the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office in 2005. During his tenure at the agency, Ty has served as: Detective Lieutenant; Patrol Lieutenant; Special Services, Search and Rescue and Emergency Management Unit Lieutenant; Patrol Sergeant; Criminal Detective; Street Crimes Detective; Patrol Deputy Sheriff and Reserve Deputy Sheriff.
Sheriff Rupert has also served as a Field Training Officer, a DCSEA E-Board representative (2 terms), a CPR/First Aid Instructor, a Crisis Intervention Team Officer, an EVOC Instructor (graduating top in his EVOC instructor course in 2008 and winning the Donny Smith Outstanding Driver Award), a part-time EVOC Instructor at the DPSST Academy, and an Instructor for Central Oregon Reserve Academy.
Prior to his law enforcement career, Sheriff Rupert spent 15 years in the private sector, culminating in his role as Vice President at Fuel Safe Systems. He grew sales from $1.7M to just under $7M while managing company operations, including manufacturing, sales, finance, marketing, and new product research and development.
From 1987 to 1991, Sheriff Rupert served on active duty in the United States Marine Corps, where he graduated from Boot Camp at the top of his platoon as Platoon Honorman. During his service, Ty earned a Good Conduct Medal, a Meritorious Unit Commendation, the National Defense Service Medal, and received three Meritorious Mast awards. He left the Marine Corps with an Honorable Discharge in 1991.
Sheriff Rupert has been married to his wife, Jaclyn, for 29 years. They have lived in Bend for over 25 years and have two sons, Brandon and Cole, a daughter-in-law, Bailey, and a granddaughter, Paisley. Sheriff Rupert enjoys the outdoors and likes to spend his off-duty time hunting, golfing, and most importantly, quality time with his wife and family.
Sheriff Rupert is excited to continue serving the community in this capacity and is thankful to the Deschutes County Board of Commissioners for appointing him to the position of Deschutes County Sheriff.
